Course details

You will be trained over an 8 week period (40 days) and the training will be predominantly practical.

This course will require a fair bit of home study commitment from you as there are also theory based assessments required in order to complete this course. At the time of booking, we will send you a home study pack as well as the associated City & Guilds reference books for the purpose of study and revision. In addition, we will also allocate you a Smartscreen account which is an additional learning resource.

You will learn through demonstration and practice over an 8 week period (40 days) and the training will be predominantly practical. You will undertake a variety of projects including marking out and making a full flight of stairs and you will also learn how to manufacture joints such as: mortice and tenon (haunched, franked, long and short shoulder), halving (cross, tee), widening (biscuit, dowel, tongue and groove, loose tongue, butt), housing (through, stopped), through dovetail, stud and cam.

The assessments are a mix of practical tasks and theory assessments including online exams so candidates will be required to research relevant topics when tasks are set. We will provide guidance on sources of reference that we recommend that you use in order to gain as much additional information as possible.
