Course details

This isn’t a training course; it is an assessment process which takes place wherever you are undertaking plumbing work. This process is undertaken in order for you to be assessed on your competence so that you can achieve an NVQ.

The existing Plumbing qualifications that you hold will have units which map over to the NVQ and you will just need to be assessed in the work-place.

We will provide you with a detailed portfolio profiling session where an Assessor will have the opportunity to show you a portfolio and provide details on the kind of work that you need to have accessd to, how to generate evidence form that work and how to transfer that evidence in to a portfolio. At the end of the session, you will be given a portfolio to start work on and the contact details of your NVQ Assessor so that you can get started immediately.

For the level 2 C&G 6189 qualification, the work based Plumbing assessments will be to establish your competence in being able to:

  • Maintain the Safe Working Environment when Undertaking Work Activities.
  • Maintain Effective Plumbing Working Relationships.
  • Contribute to the Improvement of the Plumbing Work Environment.
  • Install Non-complex Plumbing Systems and Components.
  • Decommission Non-complex Plumbing Systems.
  • Maintain Non-complex Plumbing Systems and Components

As an example of the work that you will need to have access to, your Assessor will need to witness:

  • 1 bathroom (cold/hot)
  • Another bathroom (sanitation) or a heating job
  • Decommission 1 system

You will also separately need additional evidence (photos and portfolio completion) of:

  • 1 bathroom (cold/hot)
  • Another bathroom (sanitation) or a heating job
  • Decommission another system
  • 6 maintenance jobs

The length of time taken to achieve the NVQ aspect is entirely down to you and your access to the relevant aspects of work. Your registration for the NVQ level 2 is allocated at 3 years although you should look to complete it in a much shorter timescale.
