The Experienced Worker Assessment is for electricians who have been working in the industry for at least 5 years (not including time spent in full or part time training) but have not formally completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification. You will need to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence to the standard of the Level 3 electrotechnical apprenticeship. The qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices, or those who have completed an electrotechnical technical qualification with less than five years relevant experience as an electrician. In this case, the route to take will be Level 3 NVQ Diplomas in Electrotechnical Technology (NVQ 2357).
What You’ll Learn
The C&G 2346-03 is an NVQ route suitable to those of you who have at least 5 years working history.
Units required to achieve this NVQ are:
- Requirements for Electrical Installations - City & Guilds 2382
- Level 3 Electrical Inspection and Testing – City & Guilds 2391-50 or 2391-52
- There are six Level 3 Performance Units to be assessed before you can gain this Experienced Worker qualification:
- Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations
- Organise and Oversee the Electrical Work Environment
- Apply Design and Installation Practices and Procedures
- Terminate and Connect Conductors
- Inspect, Test and Commission Electrical Systems
- Apply Fault Diagnosis and Rectification
- AM2E Assessment
The NVQ level 3 is not a training course; it is an assessment of your competence and is mandatory for those of you who require JIB Gold Card status. The NVQ is relatively easy to achieve as long as you are working within the electrical industry and have access to the right kind of work. Achievement of the C&G NVQ Level 3 in full is based upon:
- Existing qualifications
- Site/work-based assessments of competence
- C&G 2382
- C&G 2391-50 or 52
How You’ll Learn
Once you have contacted Able Skills, we will send you a pre-assessment questionnaire to determine your eligibility for this route to NVQ level 3. Following confirmation of your eligibility, we will issue you with a Skills Scan, a candidate background form and an assessment pack. Once these documents are returned to us, the next step will be to book you in for a detailed profiling session at Able Skills with an Electrical NVQ Assessor where the processes for achieving the NVQ will be explained. You will then be assessed at your workplace where Able Skills Assessors will gather documentary evidence of your competence with regards to various different aspects of an Electrical installation.
To achieve the NVQ (C&G 2346-03) in full, you will also need to have C&G 2382, level 3 Inspection & Testing C&G 2391-50/52 and then the last assessment will be the AM2E.
Courses Open To You After
If you don’t have any Inspection and Testing qualifications, Able Skills offers the C&G 2391-52. In addition, you may want to consider the level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (C&G 2396).
The candidate will also be expected to demonstrate acceptable knowledge of the current industry requirements with respect to the IET Wiring Regulations and Inspection & Testing. As part of the programme of assessment to achieve this qualification it may be considered necessary for the candidate to take a CPD qualification such as the C&G 2382 (18th Edition) or C&G 2391-50/52.
If you do not meet the requirements for this route to NVQ (2346-03) because you do not hold any underpinning qualifications, you may need to consider undertaking C&G 2365 at level 2/3 – having these qualifications will ensure your eligibility for NVQ via the 2357-44 route. The 2365 level 2 & 3 can be completed with Able Skills either on a full or part time basis (weekends) or via Home Study.
Able Skills NVQ Assessors are restricted to work-based assessments that are within 100 mile radius of Able Skills (Postcode: DA1 5BS)

Duration & Cost
It is hard to allocate a time frame for the completion of Electrical NVQ level 3 as the assessments will only be undertaken when you are ready so it’s more about you than it is about us. The AM2 aspect can be completed in 3 days. The cost for the Electrical NVQ is £1445.00 including vat (based on 2 site visits) and this can be paid in instalments over the period of the assessments. The AM2E is 3 days and is £700 including vat. See above for payment structure. The AM2E can be completed at Dartford AM2 centre or an AM2 centre of your choice (where the fees may be higher).
