Course details

To be able to have expertise as a Handyman, we have the following subjects available to you. These courses are our introductory courses, packaged and discounted to give you the opportunity to learn a range of skills. Great instructor lead hands-on courses:

Tiling: Taught by Ryan and Max

This course will cover both wall and floor tiling, teaching you to tile using a range of different products, covering different patterns and tiling in different areas.

Carpentry: Taught by Kevin, Paul & Dave

This course covers a range of carpentry aspects: cutting and fitting dado rails, architraves, skirtings and doorstops, erecting a stud-wall, fitting a door lining/frame, hanging a door and fitting a lock.

Plumbing: Taught by Jim, Mo, Ian, Mike, Roy, Richard or Sam

This course deals with all aspects of domestic plumbing including systems and fittings, soldering techniques, jointing, bending and pressure testing copper tube, valves, taps and cisterns and plastic tube installations – all leading to a complete bathroom installation.

Bricklaying: Taught by Simon and Ian

This course will teach you to set out lines, use brick and blockwork, build a corner, a pillar and a pier, put in a damp course, learn about different bonds and pointing for face work.

Plastering: Taught by Jo and Neal

This course covers fixing plasterboard and taping joints (except weekends), cutting and fixing angle beads, bonding of surfaces, skimming walls and ceilings.

Painting & Decorating: Taught by Mark

This course covers surface preparation work including repairs, application of both water based and oil based products, cutting around obstructions, how to use brushes and rollers effectively and cutting, pasting and hanging wallpaper.

These subjects can be covered in 5 day training periods (Mon-Fri) or over 2 weekends (except Carpentry, Plumbing and Bricklaying).

These are all hands-on training courses under continual guidance of your instructors. You are involved at every stage, getting completely involved in every aspect of every course. A great way to learn the basics of each trade and to be able to leave with the confidence to undertake aspects of these subjects yourself.

This package of learning will provide you with a C&G certificate for each topic that you cover so from a marketing point of view, an excellent opportunity to stand out from the crowd. Everyone needs a Handyman in their life, what better way to get all of the small jobs done than by using just one person. Equally, employment prospects if you can cover a few trades are also much improved as demand increases with maintenance companies, local authorities, housing associations and many more.

Multiskills Courses at Able Skills

Courses open to you after

The majority of these subjects have advanced training options available if you feel you want to learn that little bit more or alternatively, maybe you want to move on and specialise in one particular area. If that is the case, most of what we have within this package can be learned on a larger scale to qualification level so if you decide to upgrade, we will take in to account the time spent on the subject and the fees allocated to that subject.

All of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25.
