What You’ll Learn
If you are looking at starting a career as a Bricklayer then this qualification at level 2 Diploma from City & Guilds could be a great option for you.
This qualification has been put together with a view to getting candidates ready for the industry, not only armed with brick-work skills but with additional knowledge of the general construction industry to get candidates to be prepared and work ready.
You will learn a variety of Bricklaying and associated skills in order to achieve the following units:
- Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
- Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
- Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures
In addition, you will learn:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction
- Principles of building construction, information and communication
These additional units will ensure that you are able to
- Read drawings and specifications
- Complete method statements and risk assessments
- Keep a clean work area
- Work safely at all times
This is a very in depth course and the knowledge and skills that you will gain from this time at Able Skills will put you in a fantastic position when it comes to sourcing bricklaying work/employment.
How You’ll Learn
You will learn through demonstration and practice over a 10 week period (50 days) and the training will be predominantly practical. The assessments however are a mix of practical tasks and theory assessments including an online exam so candidates will be required to research relevant topics when tasks are set. We will provide guidance on sources of reference that we recommend that you use in order to gain as much additional information as possible and we will also provide the workbook that has been written to support this qualification.
Courses Open To You After
City and Guilds have also introduced a level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying which Able Skills will be offering in the future however the next steps from this level 2 Diploma should be NVQ (once you have secured relevant work)
Able Skills has a dedicated Brickwork area where numbers are a maximum of 8 so the instructor is readily available to assist all in attendance. Our bricklaying instructors have years of experience and you will gain as much knowledge from them (if not more) as you would if you were out on site alongside working ‘Brickies’.
This is a hands-on, practical bricklaying course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.
Duration & Cost
This is a 10 week course which can be completed in 10 consecutive weeks or broken down in to 10 separate weekly blocks.
A £500 deposit will secure a booking and the balance can be paid in instalments.
