It is very important that people check whether a worker has completed the correct gas courses before they begin work on any equipment which utilises gas in some way.
This is the advice from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which recently urged individuals to ask to see the Gas Safe Register ID card of workers who will be installing or maintaining certain appliances.
According to the organisation, engineers who have not taken gas courses and carry out faulty work at domestic or business premises can cause all sorts of problems.
"Unsafe gas work can lead to a gas leak, fire, explosion and exposure to carbon monoxide, which could result in you, your family or friends being seriously injured or killed," advised the HSE website.
If people are unsure whether a worker has completed the relevant gas courses, ask the professional if they can produce their Gas Safe Register ID card, since this document will list which appliances that engineer is able to work on.
