Britons who have recently completed an electrician training course and are looking for work could find that their job prospects are given a boost thanks to a new app for the iPhone.

The Department for Work and Pensions announced yesterday (March 10th) that it is launching a program for iPhone, iPod Touch and Google Android phones that will make it easier for job hunters to find relevant employment.

It is free to download and will offer satellite technology for people to select key areas where they are looking for work and view vacancies available in that region.

Smartphones have become extremely popular for their apps, which give people the chance to do everything from internet banking to checking the times and journeys of the Tube.

Employment minister Jim Knight commented that he is "committed" to getting people online.

"Giving people access to the internet in Jobcentres and expanding the tools available through the introduction of the app are just two elements of this work," he explained.
