Be careful, rouge Plumbing courses are on the rise!

This is a strange time for everyone. You may be thinking about starting a new career, Plumbing is a great trade to get involved with, the skill is always in demand and of course, the ability to become self-employed is always available. However, The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) is warning that COVID-19 has caused economic problems for many people and there may be people looking to capitalise on this; they warn that rouge training courses could be on the rise! So today we are going to look at what you should be looking for when looking to gain legitimate Plumbing qualifications.

What should I look for?

Firstly, you want to make sure that you are working towards an industry-recognised qualification. The centre should be City & Guilds assured, also known as an approved centre, like ours here at Able Skills. The purpose of the educational governing body City & Guilds is to protect and promote the standard of technical education. All of our Plumbing courses, for example, result in these qualifications, in fact, even upon successful completion of our Introduction to Plumbing course you will achieve a City & Guilds certificate to confirm the skills that you will have learned.

For people who have been made redundant due to the world-wide pandemic, looking to retrain in a new sector is an attractive prospect. However, no matter how attractive these cheap courses seem there is no point in training at an unrecognised centre with little experience. Obviously the majority of training centres out there are legitimate and offer quality courses and industry-recognised qualifications but the demand for training at the moment will bring out people looking to take advantage of aspiring Plumbers. That is why we urge you to do your research, look at reviews and make sure that the centre is reputable!

Courses out there that promise qualifications in weeks through condensed training is a huge red flag! Although here at Able Skills we make the process as simple as possible, becoming a Plumber is not a simple task and requires time and effort, there is no fast or quick solution to becoming a professional in the trade. As we in the industry know, Plumbers require practical skills, which take years to develop through repetition and on-site experience and can be confirmed by things like Plumbing NVQs. Avoid any centre offering 'quick' solutions to an entirely new skill, it simply doesn't make sense.
