Last week saw 5 Gurkhas from Folkestone come down and complete a Introduction to Painting & Decorating Course with us and it was great to have them with us in our centre.
Over the years we have had lots of students from the Brigade of Gurkhas training with us across a range of our construction courses. We love having them here and their willingness to learn and work hard is excellent, all our instructors speak of them in high regard whenever they train with us.
The most recent group of Gurkhas at our centre were brilliant and left us wanting even more training. Kesh, Kul, Nanda, Davendra and Harka were fantastic students and are all looking at coming back for a plastering course here at Able Skills.
Gurkhas have 30 years of service to the army and they are all within 15 months of the 30-year mark. They are now looking at moving into the construction industry for a new career and would love to retrain with us on our longer courses. Having heard great things of our courses from previous students and being so local to them, they hope to come back son to complete retrain.
After having a chat with all five of the guys, it was great to hear about their reasons for doing the course and plans for the future. They all decided that doing the course will give them the skills to decorate their own houses without having to pay someone to do it for them. Each one of them separately said how pleased they were with Decorating instructors, Mark and Chris and how much they had learnt in just 5 days.
We have had Gurkhas take on many of our short courses, from Plastering Courses, Tiling Courses, Bricklaying Courses and much more. Also, many of them have come along and upgraded to full City & Guilds Qualifications within the construction trades.
