One of the most popular construction trades is Carpentry and Joinery. With it offering so many different career paths, it is the perfect chance to start a career and get working straight away. However, without getting correctly qualified and trained you will not get very far.

Woodworking is very detailed, and training correctly can make sure you are highly skilled in the trade. Here at Able Skills, we take our training courses very seriously and we strive to give every student to best possible training, so they can get started in their new career. With our carpentry courses we have spoke to many students over the years and we have found that a lot of them love the satisfaction they get from completing woodwork. We have seen many go onto have fantastic careers in the industry.

If you are just starting out in the industry, we have on offer a number of fantastic courses to get you started, including NVQ qualifications for Carpentry and Joinery. You can gain a Carpentry NVQ with us with a course in centre then going out for your on-site assessments. We have NVQ assessors that will come to you on-site to complete these assessments which will enable you to gain a Carpentry NVQ. Without an NVQ you won’t get a CSCS Card and without one of those you will not gain work on-site in the UK.

We also offer routes for those experienced Carpenters that don’t have the qualifications and need them without completing a full course. Here are the two routes:

The OSAT route is for those Carpenters that have been working in the industry for less than five years and now need to achieve an NVQ to gain a CSCS Card. For this route here at Able Skills we can arrange work-based assessments carried out by our NVQ assessors. This will let you prove your competency as a Carpentry and help you gain an NVQ. You will need access to site work where our assessor can come out and assess you. Also, you will need to be within a 60-mile radius of our training centre for our assessors to come out to your place of work.

The next route is the EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment) which is for the time-served Carpenters that have been working in the industry for over five years but need a Carpentry NVQ. To qualify for this route, you will need to give at least five years’ worth of evidence showing you have worked as a Carpenter. Once you have done this you will come in for a profiling at our centre in Dartford. This will be followed up by completing a portfolio of work completed and a 2-day practical assessment here in our centre to test your competency.
