More tradesmen may choose to sign up for PV courses if Circle Anglia can find an investment partner to help it install solar panels on thousands of affordable homes.

John Daley, assistant director of asset strategy at the company, suggested the initiative could deliver significant benefits to residents.

Engineers who have completed PV courses may soon be brought in by Circle Anglia, as the two-year project is expected to begin in the summer.

Mr Daley said: "It will help us to achieve our aim of enhancing the life chances of our residents by reducing energy costs, as well as making Circle Anglia's homes greener."

The company is set to take advantage of the government's feed-in tariff scheme, which offers monetary compensation for producing green power using microgenerators.

All sorts of companies are currently looking to solar energy, with one of the latest being Championship football club Barnsley, which is set to install solar panels on the south and east stands of its stadium.
