Thousands of young students are training on classroom based construction courses acorss the UK which are being described as 'dead-end' by the Unite Union.

More construction courses are becoming more classroom based and it is reducing the amount of young people training towards a career in the industry.

The Unite Union have slammed these as ‘dead-end courses’ and that thousands of young students are not being well equipped for a career in the industry as more construction courses are becoming classroom based.

They also discovered that last year the percentage of classroom based construction courses increased to 14% and the number of apprentices joining the industry shrunk.

An NVQ cannot be completed without the right amount of site experience and working in a classroom is not giving them the skills they need. The NVQ is needed for people to gain a CSCS card as all sites will require that every worker has a CSCS card.

The people undertaking classroom training have no avenue to achieve an NVQ, in most scenarios.

Here at Able Skills, most of our construction courses are mainly practical based with elements of classroom work involved. This gives our students the practical skills that are needed when working in the industry.

We offer training in all the main construction trades, from City & Guilds qualifications to full NVQs at level 2 and 3. You can find all our construction courses here:

Our centre has students and adult learners of all ages coming to train and begin a new career in the construction industry. Once they have finished their training our NVQ assessors will come out and assess them in their workplace as part of their NVQ.

The instructors with all the trades are extremely dedicated to their teaching and make sure every student gets the best possible training to begin their new careers.

The construction courses are run during the week and at weekends to allow more people to train. Also, the flexibility of training here is a massive advantage as it allows our students to plan their course around their everyday lives.

If you are interested in one of our construction courses, please contact us today on 01322 280 202 and we will be more than happy to help.
