Electrical course attendees could see new employment opportunities in London after a new Crossrail contract was awarded.

A joint venture between Costain and Skanska will handle the civil engineering works at Bond Street, with ticket halls and station box structures among the features to be constructed.

Chief executive of Costain Andrew Wyllie said: "We are delighted to have been awarded additional work on Crossrail which again demonstrates our broad range of capabilities in the rail sector."

With work expected to start immediately on the project, it may not be long before tradesmen with electrical course training are required.

The Bond Street initiative is estimated to be completed in 2012.

Costain announced its financial results for 2010 this week, with the firm seeing its revenue drop compared to the previous year, but profit from operations enjoy a 41 per cent year-on-year rise.

Chairman of the group David Allvey described the results as "excellent" and claimed his team are looking to the future "with confidence".
