The number of people signing up for renewable energy courses could be set for a significant spike, if one online recruitment firm's statistics are anything to go by.

RenewablesCareers.com this week revealed that it has seen a 70 per cent increase in international traffic in the first four months of the year and a 78 per cent rise in new registrations.

With so many people taking an interest in the green sector, it may not be long before the trend is reflected in the number of tradesmen signing up for renewable energy courses.

Rowena Simpson, recently appointed business development manager at the recruiter, suggested the area demands specialist attention if people are going to find the right roles.

She added: "The renewable energy sector is growing in strength, which is clearly demonstrated by our most recent figures – the industry is definitely moving up a gear."

One area that is likely to see more green roles is Hull, since the city recently announced plans to extend its port to make the destination more attractive to wind turbine manufacturers.
