A central London firm has suggested consumers worry less if technicians with plumbing course training quote a fixed price for a job.

Ask Plumbers explained that its employees are all salaried and each issue has a fixed price, which means people do not have to be concerned about how much repair or maintenance work will cost them.

Engineers who have completed plumbing courses may have encountered this problem when charging homeowners for more complex or lengthy jobs.

They could avoid conflict by adopting the Ask Plumbers approach of fixed prices.

"We always aim to make our prices competitive and will guarantee to be as quick and efficient as possible," the firm stated.

According to chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering Blane Judd, it can be worth hiring a registered tradesman, since they tend to offer added value, such as guidance on how to minimise energy and water usage.
