Workers who have taken electrical courses could be needed to help with a new redevelopment project set to take place in Blackpool.

According to Communities and Local Government, Blackpool Tower and the Winter Gardens complex are to be given a major facelift as part of a £38.9 million project.

The scheme is expected to create around 1,000 new jobs and lead to a £10 million repairs programme, as well as delivering a widespread economic impact on the region.

Commenting on the news, joint communities and business minister Rosie Winterton said: "This investment will revamp these historic buildings and secure their world class status well into the future alongside jobs and regeneration now."

She added that the funding demonstrates the government's concerted efforts to help seaside towns thrive.

Blackpool Tower was opened on May 14th 1894 and stands at 518 feet.

It was designed by architects James Maxwell and Charles Tuke.
