Electrical training courses may be attractive to employers

Electrical training courses could help people develop the transferable skills that are desired by recruiters.

A labour market that is becoming increasingly flexible means that employers should consider people with skills gained in a number of different sectors, Jobcentre Plus said.

Such skills could include those picked up on electrical training courses and qualifications in other sectors like plumbing.

Chief executive of Jobcentre Plus Darra Singh said recruiters should "widen their net" when it comes to hiring the people most suitable for the job.

People who want to make themselves more attractive to a wider range of employers may find that undertaking electrical training courses is one way to expand their skills repertoire.

A recent YouGov survey for the Jobcentre Plus found that one in five jobseekers have taken training courses to support them in a change of direction regarding their career.

Over two-thirds of jobseekers said they were considering moving into a new industry or profession.
