Industry workers training to get approved electrical or plumbing qualifications will benefit greatly, Working Links has revealed, and could even help the economy out of the current recession.

According to Will Cookson, head of skills at the employment support organisation, vocational education helps people to make the most out of their careers and progress in their working lives.

He added that gaining qualifications could also benefit Britain as a whole.

"Training, whether it's to top up existing skills or retrain for employment in a new sector, is important not only for personal development but will also help the UK recover from the recession," he said.

However, such education needs to be made more readily available and accessible to both employers and their workforce, he continued.

Statistics released by the Office for National Statistics recently showed that the decline of the labour market slowed during the third quarter of 2009.
