Electrical or plumbing training courses could be ideal for people looking for a change of profession or a new job, after career breaks were encouraged for those faced with redundancy.

According Rachel Morgan-Trimmer, founder of the Career Break Site, people who have been made redundant from their previous jobs could find a lot of value in taking time out of working to train and gain new skills.

In addition, she stated that such sabbaticals can also provide Britons with invaluable skills alongside those gained through training courses.

She commented: "If you are applying for a job in a very competitive market, your CV is going to stand out if you have gone abroad and led an expedition, done volunteer work, or studied a language abroad."

Taking time out to gain approved electrical or plumbing qualifications could therefore offer more options for those looking to try something different or boost their resumes.

InsureandGo recently estimated that an extra 260,000 Brits will have taken a career break during 2009 as a result of the recession.
