Engineers in the Burnley area may be considering plumbing courses after it emerged that a local firm has confirmed a £2.5 million deal with a European energy company.

James Hargreaves Plumbing Merchants could receive this sum of money over this year and next, with the organisation set to build a showroom on Parliament Street using part of the cash, according to the Burnley Citizen.

This deal with Austria-based TiSUN could inspire workers to enrol on plumbing courses, since the arrangement will see employees help to distribute energy-saving products.

Bill Davies, commercial director at James Hargreaves, was quoted as saying: "The accent is very much on solar thermal products which transfer solar energy to the hot water requirements of a household or other premises."

The firm, which was established in 1968, claims to be northern England's leading plumber's merchants, selling equipment ranging from boilers and thermostats to piping and valves at the company's outlets.
