Former Leeds United and Arsenal defender Andy Linighan opted to take plumbing courses early on in his footballing career and is now taking advantage of his qualifications.

The player will no doubt be remembered by Gunners fans for scoring an extra-time winner against Sheffield Wednesday in the 1992-93 FA Cup Final replay.

But nowadays he is more likely to be seen with a wrench in his hand, as he owns a plumbing business in Hertfordshire, having passed plumbing courses in 1982 while still at Hartlepool United, reported the Yorkshire Evening Post.

He told the publication: "What I do now is great and I enjoy having banter with the tradesmen and stuff like that."

Linighan explained that he left school at 16 and was on a part-time contract with his club when he completed the training.

As well as his time at Hartlepool, Leeds and Arsenal, he also played for Oldham Athletic, Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Queens Park Rangers, Oxford United and finally St Albans City.
