We make sure that all of our students understand the importance of gas safety. At the end of our inclusive Gas Engineer courses, our students have everything they need to go ahead and register. The Gas Safe Register is the only official gas registration body of gas businesses and engineers in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Guernsey. By law all gas businesses must be on the Gas Safe Register.

Why is it important to be registered?

As a Gas Engineer it is your responsibility to keep the public safe. Gas can be very volatile if not in safe hands. The register aims to protect the public from unsafe gas work, and look to achieve this through national investigations into illegal gas workers. Registration costs £228.00 in total and lasts 12-months! Meaning you will need to apply again once this runs out.

What happens if you don't register?

As an engineer it is a legal requirement to be registered. Not everybody thinks that the law applies to them. The result? Recently a fake gas fitter whose dangerous work put lives at risk in the North-east of England has been sent to prison for three years. He was using false names, several telephone numbers and at least three bank accounts to evade detection and faked registration using forged ID cards.

What does an ID card look like?

Before you can register, you will need to complete an ACS assessment. During this test you will complete tasks relating to different gas appliances. This is based on a portfolio of work you would have already completed.

The tasks that you complete mean that those are the appliances you can legally work on once registered and will be displayed on the back of your ID.

The front of the card looks like this. It will display your ID number and some basic information such as your name and company.
