You will learn to become a Gas Engineer from scratch taught by our expert instructors who have spent years both out in the industry and teaching at our centre. They understand how to convey the lessons they've learnt out on the job to our students giving you the best starting point as a new entrant to the trade. Our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 is a collection of 7-weeks of hands-on training, portfolio placement and an ACS assessment!

Gas Training Courses at Able Skills.

What will I learn?

This package consists of 3-stages:

  • Firstly, you'll start with 7-weeks of both classroom-based theory and practical experience. During this time you will come to grips with the skills that are required for you to eventually be in a position to register with Gas Safe. Covering topics like; Pipe-work, soldering,  assembling fittings, jointing steel pipe, hot and cold water theory, Connecting water supplies and so much more. Effectively during this initial period, you'll learn to become an Engineer from scratch, starting with the fundamentals and moving on to more difficult tasks as you progress.
  • All of our training bays contain a range of different gas appliances ensuring that you have the opportunity to work on boilers, cookers, heaters, water heaters and gas meters. We have a range of new and older appliances to reflect reality to ensure that all candidates gain an appreciation of as many gas appliances as possible.
  • Next, you will look to complete a portfolio of work (Descriptions, pictures and so on) to act as evidence that you can complete tasks competently on the job. This will need to be undertaken under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer.
  • Finally, you will be ready to test your knowledge and ability learnt so far through undertaking an ACS or Approved Certification Scheme assessment to achieve CCN1 (Core Gas Safety) and then any appliances which you are eligible to undertake (this is determined by the evidence in your work based portfolio). This is a requirement, again in preparation for Gas Safe Registration with www.gassaferegister.co.uk which is a legal obligation for anybody carrying out gas work of any kind here in the UK.
