How do I start? Becoming a Gas Engineer

Gas courses are one of our most popular trades here at Able Skills and we know that students and people in general often feel like the first step is the hardest, but here at our centre we take the confusion out of the question by providing our students with comprehensive packages that upon completion will see you starting out in the industry. The path towards becoming a Gas Engineer is often seen as a long, drawn out process and that is why make it as simple as possible by breaking it down into sections and guiding our students the entire way. Today we will be breaking down one of these packages and talking about how to get involved!

Next, work placement! Following completion of this 7-week gas training, you will be deemed competent to undertake supervised gas work and so the next step towards Gas Safe registration will be to demonstrate your competence in the work place and you do this by working alongside a Gas Safe Registered Engineer who acts as your on-site recorder/verifier, helping you to build a portfolio of evidence and prove your competence and safety working with Gas. Put simply, you will need to collect evidence that you have understood the training and that you can complete gas work to a good standard shown through images and verification via an already professional engineer!

Section three:

The final section of this package is the ACS assessment! Which will need to be completed before you are eligible for Gas Safe registration and this is a requirement for all operatives involved in the installation, maintenance and servicing of domestic gas appliances and pipe-work installations. The assessments aims to prove that you know the health and safety aspects of the trade as well as procedures and British Standards, which must be applied when working on Gas Installations.

How do I become Gas Safe Registered?

Now...Obviously before you start working you will need to register with the Gas Safe Register, this is a legal requirement for anybody looking to install, remove and or alter a gas appliance and work in the world of gas in general. You can do this by going to their website, however, before applying you must complete an ACS assessment, lucky for you this is included in our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 - Go to gassaferegister.co.uk to apply!
