You can become a Carpenter by training at Able Skills.

Here at Able Skills we offer and range of different courses from across the construction and technical trades. Among the construction trades, our carpentry courses are without doubt the most popular. We are already taking lots of bookings for 2018 and are now fully booked for this year.

The first step of becoming a Carpenter is deciding which type of work you would like to go into. Whether it is domestic carpentry work, site work or even joinery work. Once you’ve chosen which path you wish to go down you can then pick the course that meets your needs.

If you are looking to be a domestic Carpenter, either the City & Guilds Carpentry Course will be perfect for you or even the Diploma courses. The City & Guilds course is one of the most popular carpentry courses we offer. The pull of an industry recognised qualification is huge for our students. This is a six-week training course which is fully practical based. Our diploma courses on the other hand are a mixture of theory and practical training and assessments.

However, if you are looking to work on site as a Carpenter you will need to complete an NVQ course to be able to get a CSCS Card. Without a CSCS Card you will not get on site. Our NVQ Level 2 and 3 courses are extremely popular with all students. The first six weeks of the course is the City & Guilds course, then two extra weeks are for the NVQ. Once your training is complete you will then be assessed on-site by one of our NVQ assessors. This will enable to you to achieve an NVQ and apply for a CSCS Card.

We have lots of Carpentry and Joinery combined courses here at Able Skills for those students that would like to gain skills in both.

A career as a Carpenter is very exciting and you can take many different routes. So, depending on where you would like to go in your career decides which course is right for you.
