As the skills shortage continues to increase, many electricians have experienced the importance of electrical testing. Whether it be through verifying if new installation work is considered safe, to assessing the ongoing safety of them too. Both are taught at the Able Skills Training Centre as one of the several Electrical Courses Offered.

The Level 3 Award In Inspection and Testing is City & Guilds Accredited and boasts great importance when seeking to progress as an electrician. This 2391 course is designed to develop your career in the following two learning stages:

Step 1: Initial Verification

Step 2: Periodic Inspection and Testing

The difference between the two stages are as follows. The Initial Verification stage involves teaching students how to verify the safety of new installation work and with the latter focusing on how we can ensure the same installations remain safe too.

Some employers may prefer to take on electricians who hold such a qualification as the 2391 course is usually undertaken by those who have previous experience within the field. We highly recommend this course to students who hold basic understanding of electrical principles and science as well as previous experience with installation work.

We always have great feedback for our excellent tutoring which can be found on our independent review website. The tutoring for our electrical courses is a true reflection of this, as they will guide you through everything you need to know to re-enforce your understanding of stages 1 and 2. You’ll be given all essential notes with starter packs alongside a Power-Point presentation to ensure we fully prepare you for any questions you may come across in the working world.

Once the theory has been covered and you feel comfortable enough to proceed, candidates can expect an online assessment before undertaking a written assignment, which will then be followed by a 2.5 hour practical assessment. The online exam consists of 60 multiple choice questions which must be completed within 120 minutes. The written assessment however must be completed within 80 minutes consisting of 4 short answer questions. Please note both are open book exams, with the following materials permitted in the exam room:

Multiple choice exam:

  • BS 7671
  • IET On-Site Guide
  • IET Guidance Note 3

Written assessment:

  • BS 7671
  • IET On-Site Guide
  • IET Guidance Note 3

The practical assignment then enables you to apply the theory we teach you. This will consist of a full initial verification and a periodic inspection of a 3 phase electrical installation. This also allows you to demonstrate your understanding of how to complete all appropriate documentation. Success is required in all aspects for the award to be given.

If you want to enhance your career and feel this is the course for you, book now. Please remember we are open 7 days a week 8.30 - 4.30 and always welcome anyone to pop in at any time that suits you.
