Importance of tradespersons highlighted by Interserve contract win

Tradespersons who have taken electrician training courses could find that they are needed to help implement a facilities management scheme awarded to Interserve.

It was recently announced that HSBC has appointed the firm on a £200 million, three-year contract to supply facilities services to 120 office and 1,600 retail sites throughout Britain and the Isle of Man.

Services will also be delivered to the banking group's Canary Wharf headquarters and will include a helpdesk and performance centre, building services, centralised service, cleaning, catering, fabric maintenance and utilities management.

It could be that workers with approved electrical, plumbing or gas qualifications are essential to providing some of these services to a high standard.

Adrian Ringrose, Interserve's chief executive, commented: "The size of the contract, the number and variety of incumbent suppliers and the fact that we are going further with this client than anyone else has previously all add to the challenge."

Interserve can be traced back to 1884 and today offers design, construction, advice and facilities management services for infrastructure both nationally and internationally.
