Hiring a professional who has passed the relevant gas courses could help people to ensure their central heating system operates as effectively as possible, it has been asserted.

If a person decides to get their gas boiler replaced, then the engineer that they pay to carry out the job should be Gas Safe Registered, according to the chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering Blane Judd.

He stressed that the work does not end with the installation of the device either, since it must be maintained on an annual basis for people to enjoy the environmental and financial benefits of a new boiler.

Mr Judd stated: "Don't assume that you can just put the thing in and leave it because it will deteriorate over time and if it is not properly maintained then people will not see those kinds of returns."

There may be more demand for gas courses in Scotland soon, since the government has started a boiler scrappage scheme, which it claims could save people £190 each year on fuel bills if they take part.
