Paint manufacturer, Johnstone’s, has been given a Pride in Our Workplace certificate by construction company Carillion, to recognise the work the company does with local communities.

The Yorkshire-based company was recognised for its contribution to new exterior coatings for a community centre in Bristol, not far from where it is working with Carillion on the multi-million pound Southmead Hospital development. It got involved with the work through Carillion’s corporate social responsibility scheme.

Johnstone’s provided the equipment and materials needed for the revamp of the outside of the centre, and enlisted a small army of local volunteers to help not only paint the exterior, but also to help clean guttering and landscape the outside of the building.

Johnstone’s also provided road marking paint to repaint the lines in the community centre’s car park, using some of the hardest-wearing exterior floor surface paint available anywhere.

Carillion’s project director, Keith Hutton, said that the work carried out by Johnstone’s had really exemplified “collaboration in action”.

“We were delighted that Johnstone’s were able to support it, donating the materials needed to complete the project,” he said. “It’s very satisfying to see the difference we can make to a community by working together in this way.”
