Tradespersons who have taken an accredited plumber or electrician training course could find themselves in demand thanks to the second round of the Kickstart fund, of which details were announced this week.

According to the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) some 22,000 homes could be delivered as part of Round 2 of the scheme, with the organisation shortlisting 265 bids worth close to £550 million in total.

The programme was introduced by the government in this year's Budget and aims to restart work on building sites and developments that have suffered as a result of the recession and consequently had to cease production.

Chief executive of the HCA Sir Bob Kerslake commented: "Kickstart continues to be a crucial component in maintaining momentum in the house building industry."

And electricians, plumbers and gas workers could well find themselves in demand when construction on a raft of new buildings gets underway as part of the scheme.
