The skills of those on plumbing training courses may be required in Knutsford as work is currently being undertaken to replace old water pipes in the area.

United Utilities will embark on a £65,000 scheme at the beginning of next week to replace 800 metres of old water mains with modern plastic equivalents.

A junction on the A556 will have to be closed while the work takes place and new engineering techniques will be used to keep disruption to a minimum.

Brian Jenkins, United Utilities project manager, said: "I am sure local residents are aware that there have been a high number of bursts on this main which has caused inconvenience and disruption to customers through loss of supplies and traffic delays."

In related news, the water provider recently announced that work to relieve sewer flooding in west Derby is about to enter the next phase of development after it was initiated in May.
