Those looking to embark on a bricklaying training course might be interested to learn that one social housing repairs firm has been awarded £37 million worth of new contracts.

This announcement from Morrison, made at the maintenance provider's annual conference in Norwich, brings the total value of new business won over the last year to £198 million.

Chief executive Guy Wakeley said that opportunities in the social housing sector have never been more plentiful and this year the company has already secured 12 partnership agreements, the majority of which are with new clients.

"In each case we have been able to provide reductions in core service costs along with improved outcomes for residents, delivered through a model that commits to sustainable local employment," he stated.

He added that further business opportunities for the business - which also runs energy and waste management programmes - are continuing to arrive on the market.
