Make sure that you are Gas Safe Registered!

A Gas Engineer has been caught out for breaching safety regulations yet again! Down in the south wet corner of the country, a dodgy gas engineer carried out dozens of jobs in people's homes without qualifications leaving them in immediate danger. Gas is a very serious subject when it comes to the health & safety of the public, there are many dangers that can occur from improper installation of Gas equipment, appliances and so on. After pleading guilty to 11 charges of breaching safety regulations, the man in questions will be sentenced at Truro Crown Court this week. The charges include servicing and installing boilers, fitting gas hobs and gas fires when he was not competent to do so and was not a member of the regulatory Gas Safety Register and not approved by the Health and Safety Executive and falsely claiming to customers to be a member of the Gas Safety Register.

Why is becoming Gas Safe Registered so important?

Well, there are many dangers that can come into affect whilst working this trade, even something as a small leak can be fatal through CO poisoning, Carbon Monoxide is a deadly gas that is odourless and can be released into peoples homes silently. Avoiding this problem is simple, hire a registered Gas Engineer, or for further precaution purchase a Carbon Monoxide alarm/detector which will notify you via sound and light if it detects the deadly gas in your home.

The purpose of the Gas Safe Register is to make sure that everybody who is working the trade have gone through the necessary health & safety training so that the number of deaths, injury and problems surrounding gas installations is reduced. The Gas Safe Register does a great job of this, firstly by simply existing as an essential entry way into the trade means that people looking to become a Gas Engineer have passed criteria that sees them fit to carry out this type of work. They also raise awareness of the issues surrounding keeping people safe and finally they carry out their own investigations, via the public reporting cowboy engineers and or suspicious activity surrounding the trade in general.
