Boiler Fault Finding - New Entrants Gas Package 3.

What will I learn?

7-weeks of training:

The course starts the same as the other 2 packages, you will take on 7-weeks of intense training. This will give you the underlining practical and theoretical knowledge.  Starting with the basics in week one and moving along to more advanced aspects of the trade as the weeks move forward. We provide everything you need during this period, our practical training is all inclusive;  All of our training bays contain a range of different gas appliances ensuring that you have the opportunity to work on boilers, cookers, heaters, water heaters and gas meters. We have a range of new and older appliances to reflect reality to ensure that all candidates gain an appreciation of as many gas appliances as possible. When you are working out in the industry you will most likely come across some of these older appliances so we try to make sure that you are prepared for everything.

To make sure that everybody on the course is at the same level as we progress through the weeks and that nobody fall behind...Progress is monitored with regular practical and written assessments and all evidence is recorded and retained for any Governing body to view at any time; these strict control methods safeguard all candidates and assessors and ensure that accurate, quality Gas training is delivered. Over the period of 7-weeks, the topics of learning will include:

  • Training on aspects of health and safety relevant within the gas industry, including asbestos awareness
  • Training to work safely around electrical systems
  • Training in the use of copper and low carbon steel so that your pipe skills are established at an acceptable standard.
  • Training on heating controls, Airing cupboard and radiator installation practices
  • Training in all areas of domestic gas safety

Portfolio completion:

Upon completion of the 7-weeks of training, the next step is portfolio completion. In effect you will need to provide proof that you can carry out gas work in a competent manner, to provide this you will need to work along-side a registered Gas Engineer and collect evidence of your ability and with their assistance, you will undertake a variety of gas work on a variety of appliances to meet the requirements of the portfolio to move you on to your formal gas assessments (ACS). You will receive guidance throughout on how the portfolio evidence should be recorded.

Approved Certification Scheme:

Approved Certification Scheme, also known as ACS is a core domestic gas safety assessment. Aiming to provide you with knowedlhe regarding the requirements involved in the installation, maintenance and servicing of domestic gas appliances and pipe-work installations. The assessment will be taken here at our facility and the content will depend on the type of work that you completed for your portfolio. Completing an ACS assessment is a necessity when looking to become 'Gas Safe Registered ' which by law is required by everybody looking to carry out any kind of gas work in the UK.

Boiler Fault Finding:

This course is specific to the New Entrant Gas Training Package 3 and is not included in the other two 'New Entrant' packages that we offer. Having provided portfolio placements for quite some time now, it has become very apparent that despite comprehensive training and a work placement, candidates knowledge of boiler service, repair and maintenance is quite minimal (This part of the course can be completed at your discretion, any time during or after the portfolio placement. This is why we now include this additional course that will help to strengthen this specific skill, this course is 1-week long and will be very hands-on covering the following topics:

  • Multimeter training
  • Electrical Safety tests
  • Testing pumps
  • Testing switches
