Interest in plumbing courses could rise if a Middle-Eastern-style toilet is taken on by more facilities around the UK.

The Daily Mail reported that Rochdale's Exchange shopping mall has installed two 'Nile' pans, which are loos that involve the user squatting over the item.

These facilities were put in after a training session by community activist Ghulam Rasul Shahzad had been carried out, showing bosses that such toilets are utilised in local mosques.

While such equipment is not currently hugely popular in the UK, some workers may benefit from plumbing courses in case they are hired to install the Nile pans.

A spokesperson for the Exchange retail complex was quoted as saying: "We regularly receive cultural awareness training from Ghulam and when we were planning the toilets this was something that cropped up."

According to a recent article in the Huffington Post, the toilet seats that are commonly used in the Western world are very unhealthy due to the position people are forced to adopt on them.
