Tradespersons who have successfully completed electrical or plumbing courses could find their job prospects are given a boost if homeowners take heed of advice from the National Home Improvement Council (Nhic).

Figures from Shelter and the Royal Institute of British Architects recently showed just 12 per cent of UK householders are planning on making their homes more eco-friendly in the near future.

However, according to director at the Nhic Andrew Leech, this is nowhere near enough.

"In this day and age, [people] should seriously be looking at improving the energy efficiency of their property," he stated, before adding "it ought to be 100 per cent".

He went on to explain that taking an environmentally-conscious approach to home improvement will benefit owners in terms of increased asking prices and value.

And people who have taken electrical or plumbing courses could find themselves in increasing demand to install energy-saving devices or appliances as a result of Mr Leech's remarks.
