New Career

Nigel is starting a new career by training at Able Skills in Dartford!

After working in Sales for many years on commission based jobs, Nigel decided he didn’t want to pursue that career anymore. The pressure of constant sales meant he wanted to try something different.

Having always enjoyed hands-on work, especially decorating and general painting, Nigel took a liking to the construction industry. Although he lives in Basingstoke, he decided to complete his training at Able Skills. He chose us here in Dartford due to the videos he saw of our centre from YouTube.

You must be thinking; how does he travel each morning?

Nigel is currently staying in a local pub that a lot of our students use nearby. This was because our accommodation was fully booked, so we recommended the Sir John Franklin pub. He has thoroughly enjoyed his stay there so far.

He is coming towards the end of his first week of the multi craft course he is completing. Nigel decided he didn’t want to focus on just one trade, so he book our multi craft course. During this he is completing two weeks of decorating, two weeks of plumbing and two weeks of carpentry.

Starting a new career is quite a daunting prospect, however, Nigel has seen his wife grow her own business in the last few years. This has given him the confidence to go out and begin his own business with his new skills.

Nigel already has worked available with lots of family and friends wanting his services after just one week of training!

After the completion of his course he plans to go straight out to work and start building his confidence. Although, he did mention that he may take some trades for further training and may even take a tiling course.

When we asked how his course had gone this week he couldn’t praise the training and his tutor enough. Mark, our decorating instructor, has been excellent during his training. Nigel was extremely pleased with his teaching style and always being there to help but also letting him get on.

Nigel has completed so fantastic work already this week and he is looking forward to the remainder of his course. We would like to wish him the best of luck for the rest of his course.
