New research carried out by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) shows that the shortage of construction workers has reached a record high. We all know of the governments plans to build thousands of homes this year and such shortage is causing a problem as demand for such skilled work doesn’t seem to meet the countries needs. This leaves great potential for even greater pay days for tradesmen looking to enrol on to relevant construction courses.

According to the chief executive of FMB, Brian Berry responded to the all time high skills shortage, stating the shortage is forever increasing. It is reported that the government plans on building 300,000 new homes each year and one main incentive to achieve this target really is the increase in wages.

The ongoing issue of leaving the European Union, otherwise known as Brexit, has now created the need for the government to do so in a way that must not make it increasingly difficult for workers to move freely to and from the UK. Should this need of the construction industry not be met, the skills shortage will plummet further and directly impact trade growth as well as government plans. Why make it even more difficult for skilled tradesmen to work and assist in economy growth for the country when we should be making investments to become even stronger.

Mr Berry did however see one positive aspect in such dark times for the construction industry. As such shortage exists, now is the best time for anyone seeking a new career or has always looked to worked within construction, to enrol on the relevant construction courses and get themselves qualified as they are highly likely to find work almost instantly.
