Making a career change can be a very big step in anyone's life, George has swapped the Oil & Gas Industry for the Decorating Industry.

George was only last year working in the Oil & Gas Industry, however, he felt it was time to make a change and start a more enjoyable career.

After many years working within the same industry, George thought that a change would be a great idea and he began to work self-employed as a Handy Man. Doing gardening work and decorating work he had started a nice little business. However, George wanted to get some more skills and a qualification.

After searching up and down the country, George found us at Able Skills and has been travelling down from Aberdeen in Scotland to complete his training. This time last year he was working for Oil & Gas firm, Shell in Africa. George is now training to become a Painter & Decorator with our five-week City & Guilds Painting & Decorating Course.

Travelling from Aberdeen can be very difficult and thanks to the flexibility of our courses here at Able Skills, George has been able to split his course up. He has been completing one week of his course every month. However, due to a work opportunity in the Oil & Gas Industry, George hasn’t been able to train for the last few months, but this week he has picked up where he left off.

George is currently on the third week of his five-week course and he couldn’t have asked for anything better. The flexibility of the course has made it possible for him to train and has been flying down to Dartford for Aberdeen each week. During his stay, he has been using our accommodation which he describes as great value for money at just £20 a night.

Although, George had previous experience in decorating, however, he felt taking a course would increase his work load. He has really increased his skills whilst training with us and has learnt how to complete all work the correct way. Also, George was very grateful that he can now structure his work better and be more professional when working with clients and customer’s houses.

We would like to wish George the very best of luck with his new career and his new business.
