A government announcement could lead to tradespersons who have taken plumbing training courses boosting their employment prospects.

It was revealed last week (February 19th) by Communities and Local Government that 36 councils across the country are to be awarded with expert advice and guidance on the design and construction of up to 10,000 new homes.

According to the department - which aims to create thriving, sustainable neighbourhoods - £1 million in funding will be shared out between the chosen local authorities and it is hoped the finance will help rural communities retain residents and boost their economies.

Commenting on the announcement, housing minister John Healey said: "We're backing rural councils with funding for the skills to provide homes young families can afford, where they want to live."

Workers who have approved plumbing qualifications could find increased job opportunities across the country as a result of thousands of potential new homes being built.
