Workers who have taken a plumber training course could find that their services are currently increasingly in demand among British self-builders.

According to Raymond Connor, chief executive of BuildStore - supplier to the self-build, conversion and renovation market - now is the perfect time for people to construct their home.

This is because of "increased land availability, falling land prices and cheaper materials and labour", he explained.

Mr Connor added: "Building a home from scratch is a great way to get the home you want at an affordable price", especially for people frustrated at the lacking supply of quality properties at the moment.

However, those embarking on a self-build project could be in need of a variety of tradespersons - such as plumbers and electricians - to fit out their new house with appliances and an electrical system.

And with growing numbers of DIY home builders expected by Mr Connor, it could be that such industry professionals find their employment prospects boosted as a result.
