Workers who have taken approved plumber training courses could find themselves increasingly in demand in the near future after TradePlumbing suggested that homeowners are buying more and more boilers.

According to the firm, the recent cold weather has led to a growing proportion of Brits interested in purchasing combi boilers, rather than trying to improve their homes by buying bathroom suites.

Kat Pettit, marketing manager for the company, commented: "The long-range weather forecast doesn't look too great, with more cold weather expected for February."

"Not only are customers searching for a condensing combi boiler, they're also looking for replacement gas boiler flues."

It could be that tradespersons with approved plumbing qualifications are needed to fit such new appliances.

She added that the boiler scrappage scheme may have also played a big part in making heating improvements more popular among homeowners recently.

As part of the initiative, the government will give a grant of £400 to people who want to replace their old, energy-inefficient boiler with a new one.
