Employing the help of a worker with approved plumbing qualifications is the best option to prevent pipes freezing up during the cold winter weather, a plumber has suggested.

Speaking to Connectmidmissouri.com, industry professional Josh Luebbering stated that he expects a multitude of homes to experience pipe damage over the next few weeks.

The Columbia and Jefferson City news portal explained that temperatures are currently freezing in the American region, much like in Britain at the moment, and this heightens the need for special care being taken to stop pipes freezing up.

Mr Luebbering outlined a number of preventative steps homeowners could take to help avoid such problems, but said it is ultimately better to get a professional in.

"I recommend having a plumber do it," he stated.

"That way you make sure you get it on there correctly and everything is bonded to the piping correctly so that you seal both ends up."

According to the Met Office, British weather is expected to get worse over the weekend, with icy winds and severe frost.
