Tradespersons who have taken plumbing training courses could come to the rescue of British homeowners, Congregational & General has revealed.

According to the insurance provider, low temperatures and poor weather could increase the chance of pipes freezing or even bursting, potentially causing devastating water damange.

In addition, poorly installed wet rooms and bathrooms could lead to problems.

Margaret Slater, marketing manager at the company, commented: "There are a number of different causes of damage from the escape of water – most commonly failed plumbing or inadequate DIY. However, less obvious factors like multiple bathrooms or poorly sealed wet rooms are a major issue too"

As a result the firm gave advice to homeowners on how to protect against crises like this, stating as its top tip the need to employ a professional plumber to carry out work.

Congregational and General Insurance holds over £9 billion worth of household assets and nearly £5 billion of church assets.
