Technicians who have completed plumbing courses may find their skills are required on a new Ballymore initiative in London.

The Embassy Gardens development will feature 2,000 homes, a hotel and 600,000 sq feet of office space if it receives planning permission.

Providing Ballymore are able to go ahead with the scheme in the borough of Wandsworth, there could be opportunities for tradesmen with professional training such as plumbing courses as early as next year.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, design advisor to the mayor of the capital Sir Terry Farrell described how the Nine Elms area will offer a natural line of defence for the US Embassy, which is due to move into the neighbourhood.

"The aim is to turn it to one's benefit by making a defensive area around the embassy take the form of landscape," he explained.

Currently, the US Embassy is based in Grosvenor Square, but will move to the Kieran Timberlake-designed building by 2017.
