The Duke of Edinburgh has received a visit from a plumbing course student, with the latter saying it was a pleasure to meet the Queen's husband.

Matt Taylor, who works for a plumbing company in Bath, was rewarded with a trip to Buckingham Palace after receiving a medal of excellence from City & Guilds, reported the Bath Chronicle.

The 17-year-old said it was "brilliant" to meet Prince Philip and have the chance to chat to him after the prize-giving ceremony.

"It was a great day out – a truly unforgettable experience. My mum came along with me and we both really enjoyed ourselves," Mr Taylor told the publication.

He went on to thank his tutor John Culley for nominating him, as well as acknowledging all the other teachers who prepared him for the plumbing profession.

Mr Taylor received the award for his outstanding performance in the construction sector.

Prince Philip, who celebrated his 90th birthday last month, is the longest serving consort in the history of the UK.
