A young man who recently completed a plumbing course has lauded the importance of financially backing people getting into the profession.

Luke Judge, 21, is about to set up his own company and told a group of students at the New College Nottingham that he could not have done it without his apprenticeship as a plumber, according to the Nottingham Post.

He worked in the profession while completing plumbing courses and said that individuals in his position are worth investing in, since they are the future of the sector.

Mr Judge was quoted as saying: "If my company proves to be a success, I would definitely look into taking on apprentices as well."

The young plumber told the publication he was able to gain experience of working with heating systems, toilets and bathrooms during his time in the job.

Guardian reader Nikki Guest recently wrote to the national newspaper suggesting greater financial incentives should be included on apprenticeship schemes.
