A gold medal at the Welsh SkillPlumb finals has been handed to a young man who is currently taking plumbing courses.

Chris Way will now head for the UK finals and he told the Denbighshire Visitor he cannot wait to take on the finest apprentices in the rest of the nation.

The 19-year-old is currently attending plumbing courses and the principal at his school - Coleg Llandrillo Cymru - has praised him for his efforts.

Huw Evans was quoted as saying: "I would like to congratulate Chris on gaining the gold medal; this means the college has the best apprentice plumber in Wales."

Mr Wray is from Prestatyn and will head to London in October to attend the UK finals of the construction skills contest.

SkillPlumb is organised by SummitSkills and sees apprentices from England and Wales compete for prestige and prizes, with the organising body lauding the experience young plumbers gain from such contests.
