There could be a spike in demand for plumbing courses in the capital after British Land and Blackstone were confirmed to build a new office tower in London.

It is being constructed for Swiss bank UBS and will become the financial institution's new headquarters when it is finished - which is expected to be some time in 2014.

The plan is for the current UBS offices - at number four and six Broadgate next to Liverpool Street station - to be knocked down and an entirely new tower to be constructed, which will no doubt require the services of engineers who have completed plumbing courses.

Panmure property analysts were quoted as saying: "We believe this transaction is very good news for both British Land and City rental prospects at large."

The Guardian recently reported that major office landlord Hammerson returned to profit in the first six months of this year, thanks to increased demand for properties.
