Two young carpenters from Plymouth have won prestigious awards at the only national contest open to students of carpentry, joinery and shop fitting.

Jack Weekes and Sebastian Roberts both received recognition for their woodworking skills from the Carpenters’ Craft Competition, run by The Institute of Carpenters.

Jack, who is studying for his NVQ Level 2 in site carpentry, placed first in the South West regional under-20s category and eventually came third in the national under-20s category.

Sebastian Roberts, who completed his NVQ level 3 in site carpentry in the summer, won first place in the South West regional over-20s category, and his skills have since seen him taken on by Plymouth College a practical skills teacher.
